The Week In Geek – 10/11/14

Another slow week for nerd-news (unless we’ve missed something), but here’s our regular rundown of the stories that caught our attention this week. Anything we missed? Let us know in the comments down below.

The Week In Geek

Tales from the Borderlands trailer

If you’ve been here before you may have already picked up that I am a huge fan of the Borderlands game series, so you can imagine how excited I am to see Telltale games release the trailer for their spin-off series that will go deeper into the life and personality of Pandora.

Episode 1 will be released on the 25th of this month (almost in time for pay-day for most of us), the dates for future episodes have not been announced as yet, but the eagle…. eared amongst you might have picked up on particularly famous voice: Patrick Warburton!

I am so damn excited!

Science Wins

This week we landed an object the size of a washing machine on a rock no bigger than Guernsey, moving at ridiculous speeds an incredibly long way away. When Philae was launched to hit comet 67P, some of you may have still had AOL accounts, and Spider-Man 2 had just hit cinemas.

The news is not all good of course. As you may well have heard, an unfortunate quirk of Philae’s landing has caused the solar panels to be badly disposed to charge the recording and transmission equipment and so only a limited amount of information has been gained from the mission. The Rosetta Satellite will continue to observe and report the progress of the probe.

Perhaps the biggest benefit from this mission is how it has captured the media’s attention to the space program and will hopefully see a brighter future for humanity’s reach into the solar system.

Bristol Anime and Gaming Convention

This is a thing that is going to happen with much involvement by none other that our very own Timlah, who will be on registrations throughout the event. With prices from just £7 on the door for the only day of the convention, this will be great value for money!

Whats more, you avid GeekOut readers have a chance to win some swag from Timlah! Just see him there on the day and tell him that you read the blog and while stocks last, he will present you with a gift and a big hug. Watch out, he is a hugger. You might just get one anyway!
