This Friday, from 1pm UK time, the Gamely Giving team and myself are going to be going live for a 48 hour gaming session – All for charity. But what is Gamely Giving and what are we going live for? Read on to find out more!
A whopping 48 hour gaming marathon will be taking place today from 1pm GMT. I’m taking part in this gaming marathon, taking up the 11pm until 4am slot today. That’s right, you should totally come and watch if you’re not doing anything! The marathon is dedicated to helping raise funds for GameBlast’16, an event set up by Special Effect with the intent to raise some money for disabled people. It’s a chance for gamers to show their caring, charitable side, which the media often forgets to shed some light on.
During my section, I’m going to look at what I call hobbyist developers; people who made games because it’s fun, less for the monetary value involved – Although many went on to make a good bit of cash for their developers. Check the Oskar schedule below to see a full list of the games I have planned – If one doesn’t happen, it means I either somehow forgot (I don’t know how I’ll forget, I’ve got my schedule printed and a timer), or it’s just not working. It’s typical, because all of these hobbyist games are Flash games – A platform that’s diminishing rapidly.
Whilst I’ll be playing many a fun game on the stream, the main event comes at 2:30am when I will be winding down with some game development. Originally, I was going to create a full game, start to finish on RPG Maker VX – But as time has gone on, the scope for the game has gotten bigger and way more exciting, so I’ll be looking to make the start of the game on the stream and add to it over time – with a rough goal of releasing the game at the end of the year.
The Gamely Giving team consist of:
Please do swing by – we’ll be kicking it all off with Nathan from the get go… But wait! We can’t just be sitting around playing games, right? Well, that’s where you’re sort of right: We have games to give away! On the hour every hour, we’ll be giving out games – Plus, the money we raise will be going to a great cause! If you can’t donate your money, please consider donating some of your time and keeping us sane in the chat! We’ll need all of the friends we can get… Although I appreciate my time slot is a bit on the rough side at 11pm-4am. So, if you’re not out boozing, why not be up all night with me… er… Chatting, I guess?!
Oh and what’s more, just to make life even harder for myself, I randomly decided that the best thing to do whilst trying to stream me playing video games, would be to do it in full costume. Because I’m very clever* like that. So, if you want to see someone make a bit of a fool of themselves, whilst doing something for charity, come join me from 11pm tonight at twitch.tv/gamelygiving.
Thanks for reading – Hope to see you there, but if not, I’ll let you know how the game development went on Sunday and of course there’ll be Tweets and Facebook posts out when the games go live today! Are you going to be able to watch some of the stream? Are there any parts of the stream that sound interesting to you? Let me know in the comments below, or over on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks to all of you for being awesome!
*Note to self: That isn’t actually very clever.
