For the MOBA players among us, it appears that Heroes of the Storm recently received a major overhaul. Deciding that I couldn’t just let it slide, I went to have a peek at what the huge update would have in store for us. New characters, new skins, new ways to unlock skins and characters… And a sense of revitalisation to a game that was fun, but admittedly getting a little bit on the stale side. If you’ve not seen this yet, come have a look and see what’s new.
Heroes of the Storm is a MOBA, which means that you and a team of four other players take on an enemy team of five players. You can party up to go in as a team, or you can just go into a game by yourself and be put into a random team. This means you’ll be going in to the heat of the battle mostly by yourself a lot, unless you have someone to play with. Fortunately, I had someone I could play the game with, so on to the nexus I went and boy, did things feel fresh and new? Let’s have a look at what you get by just signing in right now.
You have only a limited time to claim a Mega Bundle, which is 20 characters all put into one convenient package. These contain heroes, which means you can dive right into the game and the best thing is? You don’t need to have wracked up any hours on the game to get this deal. You choose one of four bundles and unlock plenty of characters right off the bat. It meant that my terrible team of just 3 characters suddenly shot up to a whopping 23 of them. This went further with the brand new loot chest system, which we’ll get to shortly. Some of the characters I unlocked included Ragnaros and Alarak, characters I wouldn’t have normally picked.
There are also Loot Chests, which give you four random items, which can be a skin, an emoji, a sound clip, or even a character which counts as a legendary find. I managed to nab myself a 24th character this way, as I unlocked Tracer from Overwatch, which went down a treat, as I also unlocked a rare Tracer skin. If you already have the item that you find in the chest, the game will reward you with shards instead, which can be used to unlock cosmetics. I unlocked a skin for E.T.C, the character I play the most and a skin I’ve been wanting for quite some time… Lepoard Glam Metal E.T.C. All of that glorious hair!
So we played through five games and even better? Because it’s an event right now, those 5 games unlocked me lots of mounts and other Overwatch related stuff. If I had Overwatch on my PC, it’d have also rewarded me with in-overwatch stuff… So it’s worth considering doing those 5 games if you’re a bit Overwatch fan. Don’t forget, Heroes of the Storm is completely free with the exception of the gems which can be bought with real money to buy in-game stuff. All of these freebies that come with this new update are a welcome sight and means that people can just jump into the game. So if you’re looking for a game this Bank Holiday Weekend, why not consider booting up Heroes of the Storm for old times sake? You might find yourself addicted once again!
