You’d better watch out,
You’d better not pout,
You’d better not cry,
I’m telling you why,
GeekOut Meetups are coming to town.
Yes, it’s that time of year once again, when the weather suddenly becomes frightful and the fire becomes less of a destructive beast and more of an ally. Keep yourself wrapped up warm this month, as we’ll be bringing you Christmas, Winter and New Years themed articles throughout. Put on your dressing gown, kindle that fire and be prepared for another super cold month, as we prepare for jolly Saint Nick.
During our time here on GeekOut South-West, we’ve been blessed with many presents. We’ve made some amazing friends, we’ve had four years of Christmases together. That’s a long time, but we’ve stuck it out, through the good times and the bad. As such, to begin our month of Christmas themed articles, I thought we’d reflect back upon previous years – and talk about what we’re going to be up to this month.
We’ve held Super Secret Santa events, we’ve also had a trip to a hotel! We’ve played so many board games and we’ve all kept warm in our favourite venues. Our previous years have seen us hold a number of meetups, in a variety of locations, including Bristol at the King William Ale House and then later on at the Old Market Tavern. We’ve visited many venues, including the Phoenix and many more. We’ve all gotten dressed up and we’ve shared during the Christmas period.
We’re keen to ensure we keep going towards the future of this website, along with the future of our offline ventures. In 2015, we were hugely ambitious, when we turned the front page into a (admittedly sloppy) advent calendar. We’re not gonna do that again: It was a hell of an effort, keeping that updated – But keep your eyes peeled over the coming days; Heck, we’re already getting festive! Even Gordon will soon be donning a Santa’s hat, begrudgingly or not!
Christmas has always been a time for friends and family, for great food and drink and of course, excellent social possibilities. As such, this month in GeekOut Bristol, we’ve got not one, but two Meetups this month, as well as a CineMeet! Our first meetup is our usual GeekOut Bristol Meet, where this month we’re going to celebrate all that is Star Wars and Christmas… A bit of an odd mix. We’ve got the large projector and we’re going to pay the Star Wars Christmas Special! What a treat*..!
The CineMeet for the month will be, of course, for Star Wars Episode VIII. If you’re looking forward to the next film in the franchise, then you might wanna join our fellow geeks. The CineMeet’s are led by GeekOut Bristol’s very own Alex Parker. If you want to run a meetup on behalf of GeekOut South-West, let me know!
Finally, we’ve brought back our hugely popular GeekOut New Years Eve Meet. You must sign up via Facebook, Twitter or Meetup in order to get in on this one – So check out the Meetup RSVP button at the bottom of the page.
Of course, we’re not the only ones who are busy!
Joel is going to be running our GeekOut Shrewsbury Meet, which is taking place on December 28th – So just after you think the festive cheer is all over with, you’ve got another opportunity to meet up with your fellow geeks and play some damn good board games, eat, drink and chat! So why not check out our next GeekOut Shrewsbury Meet? Details of this will go live next week (as we’re only a day removed from November’s Shrewsbury Meet!)
Lastly, those of you who stuck around to read this whole post, you can get into our super secret competition! We’re curious as to who’s reading this!
Monday 4th December
From Monday, if you type “!gordon christmas” on our Discord channel, or you drop us an email with the subject “GeekOut Competition”, we’ll get you added into a special competition, in which the winner will be announced on Friday 22nd – You’ll get 3 Steam titles and a copy of the GeekOut Holiday Special Poster!
Please note: The competition is open to UK Residents only.
So what are you waiting for? If you want to take part in what we’re doing this month, then stick around and get involved with our competition! Check out our articles, as we’re going to get jolly – And most importantly of all, spread the holiday cheer. As ever, we love to hear from you, so let me know: What are you most looking forward to this month? Share your thoughts and opinions below, or over on Facebook or Twitter.
