GeekOut Bristol Meet – June 8th: Newbie’s Guide to Board Gaming

18+ Event

We play a lot of board games at our events… However, I’ve noticed that some attendees don’t feel comfortable playing them. That’s okay! For this month’s event, we invite you to come and have a taster of different games.

FOODIE PRE-MEET POLL LIVE (TBC):
———————-

Wanna grab some grub with us before the event? Great! We’ll be up for a feast before the event. The poll will go live on Facebook on Sunday 26th.

MAIN EVENT: 14:00-Midnight (Old Market Tavern)
———————-

Want to get into board gaming? Perhaps you’re a board game virtuoso? Whoever you are, we’ve got a game for you, with easy-to-follow rules and instructions. Oh and even our competition is board game themed!

PLEASE NOTE:

Food & drink can NOT be brought in with you to the Old Market Tavern. If you are caught with food and drink on the premises, you will be asked to leave until you’ve disposed of your food or drink.

There will be a food menu at Old Market Tavern in the evening! The food is cheap and it’s delicious – usually available from 6pm.

Final note: If you are asked for ID by the bar staff, we will not vouch for your age – You must provide ID.

COSPLAYERS
———————-

Been looking for an excuse to play board games whilst in costume? Me too. So this is your chance to get dressed up as your favourite characters and play board games with friends, both old and new alike.

*CHANGING FACILITIES* If you want to change into a costume when here, please note there are no changing facilities. There are just standard toilet cubicles – Which are fine to change in, but consider this first.

COMPETITION: Make Your Own Board Game (Results 9pm)
———————-

You need to design your own board game. You may, if you wish, bring materials along with you, however you must use the following requirements for your game:

You MAY create a variation on an existing game, if you wish.

If you wish, you may present your game to me at any point in the event and show me how it’s played (so long as I am free to do so).

Sweet… Just came across you lot… Uh, probably could have phrased that better… Anyway, I’m a DM looking to have intellectual intercourse with like minded people who find reality to painful… Uh, I mean, imagination a highly versatile and effective way of broadening ones mind.

I’m fully blind which throws up some issues with getting to meet-ups etc, but I’m keen. live down by the harbour side… Don’t worry, in a flat. I’ve got a game ‘Nyctophobia’ which I could bring along which is a purely tactile game, never played it myself but understand that it’s a jolly romp in the dark as an ax wielding maniac attempts to cleave you in two before you can escape the maze of the forest… That’s if you’ll have me…

    • Hey there Oliver, you’d be more than welcome to join us! We have a whole host of people with various interests, so no doubt someone would be interested.

With regards to being blind, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to offer much in terms of assistance. I’d say if you came by earlier in the day, we may be able to get people to sit with you (it’s quieter earlier in the day, so it’s easy to get a seat and get into a game with some early birds).

Would you be coming along by yourself, or with someone else? It’ll be great to meet you!
