Not going to lie, I have to blame Joel entirely for finding out about this. Asdfmovie is a series of random comedy skits by YouTuber, TomSka. Last month, they released the latest asdfmovie, asdfmovie12. These short animated clips always get a chuckle out of us and admittedly, there’s little I can do to support the guy except maybe buy some merch. Until I watched asdfmovie 12, that is, as I’ve now seen that he’s been working on his own card game – and considering as of the time of writing there’s only 7 days left (6 by the time you read this), I figured it’d be good to share it with you all.
What Is Muffin Time: The Random Card Game?
11 years ago, YouTuber TomSka put out these skits called asdfmovie, which were short and simply animated. Each skit was only a couple of seconds in length and were just a light gag. It may be someone falling up some stairs, a magical pony flying (who may return at later points) and so on. They were all fairly random, but in their own way, entertaining and endearing. The style wasn’t complicated, which added a lot to the charm. Over the years, TomSka added more skits to his repertoire, until eventually Muffin Time: The Random Card Game was born.
Muffin Time is exactly what fans of TomSka have been wanting; a way to take the humour he brings and to be able to mold it into something of their own. The game is fairly simple: The first player to at least 10 cards, who says “Muffin Time” and is able to keep at least 10 cards until their next turn is the winner. The game is played by either picking up a card in their turn, or playing one of the many cards at their disposal. It’s deceptively simple, but what’s nice about this game is the sheer volume of cards. Read the Tiers & Rewards for an idea of how many cards will be available.
The game is played between 2-6 players.
Tiers & Rewards
We like to share the tiers and rewards, usually the cheaper options. As such, here are most of the pledges, in case you’re thinking about backing the card game yourself.

As an aside, it’s worth mentioning there’s a £60 one as well, which is for 2 copies of the game. Furthermore, if you get one of the £30 pledges, you also get a muffin plush toy, so that’s pretty cute. Shipping to the UK is only £8, which isn’t too bad! All in all, I think the games are nicely priced and considering there’s only 6 days left by the time you read this, it’s definitely worth thinking about investing. It’s a typical party game (think Exploding Kittens, or Cards Against Humanity), where the rules are nice and simple, but the actual gameplay will be a lot trickier, due to the unknown of people holding onto action cards, trap cards and more.
If this looks like your sort of game, let us know in the comments below. Will you be backing TomSka and his Muffin Time? As ever, share your thoughts with us in the comments, or on Facebook and Twitter.
