Sins takes place in our own world, a century or more from now, which is in a post-apocalyptic state. Civilisation as we know it no longer exists, areas of the world are now hideously scorched by nuclear attacks and others have returned to their natural state.
I met co-creator and development team lead Sam Sleney at the 2017 UKGE, where after the past 6 years or so he had been developing the game and was heading to Kickstarter. I caught up with him again at UKGE 2018 where the game was nominated (and won) for the People’s Choice Best RPG award. He very kindly gave me a copy of the prequel scenario, Dead City, which is basically a quick start. Before I dive into this article, I just need to quickly apologise to Sam, because I have taken so long to get this overview out.
FAITH is an RPG set in a futuristic universe based on the worship of five gods. The game consists of four main player character races which include Human, each with a deep law to read through. It was first published in the EU in 2017 by Burning Games and written by J. C. Alvarez and Carlos Gómez Quintana. Burning Games gave us a PDF copy after we spoke to them at UK Games Expo.
I admit that the title is a bit like clickbait, but I think it’s about time that I spoke about just how I feel about Monopoly as a game. This post will, of course, include a very strong opinion as already stated in the title, so if you’re not a fan of opinionated posts then we have plenty more articles you can read. Also, unlike your average clickbait article, I’m not going to wait until the end of the article to explain why the game has achieved the status of hatred with me. Buckle up, this might get bumpy.
This is probably by far the weirdest name I have come across, for what is essentially a board game convention. The convention has been running for about 6 or so years and originated in Stockport. However, now we have Stabcon South that takes place in Southampton and since it is so close to Bristol, I grabbed two friends and went to check it out.
You may remember a that some time ago we attended UK Games Expo and during that time, we came across quite a few Kickstarter projects that were due to launch this year. Snitch is one of those projects I found, where I was lucky enough to play it with the creators. It’s a fast-paced social-deduction style game, that now has been released on Kickstarter and at time of writing, is well underway to getting funded.
Jamie Noble Frier, also known as The Noble Artist, is a digital artist hailing from Sussex and is now turning his hand to board game design, with his first major foray: Hero Master. I met Jamie at UK Games Expo and he very kindly offered to give me a personal tour through the game as it stood, using Tabletop Simulator. After much time wrangling between the two of us, we finally got it scheduled in and I asked Nathan to join us digitally. The result of this is over two hours of video taken from that playthrough that we need to condense, do a voiceover for and release on our YouTube channel. Video aside, Jamie’s Kickstarter is now up and running and we thought it would be a great time to do a little overview of the game, which in my opinion is well worth buying.
I’ve had a preview copy of MicroBrew since I went to Airecon, after I spoke to Nigel from One Free Elephant; a board game company based in Scotland. We spoke for a bit about their release last year of the cute mining game, Ore Some, along with their most recent venture at the time, Carcosa. Nigel very kindly offered me a chance to beta test MicroBrew and now that they have gone live with their Kickstarter, it’s a great time to tell you all about it.
If you have been to any sort of convention or expo, then you have probably had some interaction with a volunteer at any given time. In fact, I would say that without the help of volunteers, then some of the events, especially an event like UK Games Expo would be a lot smaller and less awesome. Volunteering is a great way to attend an event for a low cost, as well as a way to give back to your fandoms. You can use that as an opportunity to get to see a new town, city or even country, if that is part of the opportunity. You’ll have to pay for your own travel to get there (sometimes your own accommodation too) but after that, there is usually very little to spend for.
In the first part of my UK Games Expo Kickstarter roundup, I mentioned a game involving Goblins by Room 17 games called Miremarsh. Now that the Kickstarter is live I listened back to the play through that I recorded at UKGE this year and wanted to give my full opinion on it.
