Kickstarter Highlight: The Isle of Cats

A 60-90 minute long game, made by an experienced gamer for experienced gamers? Nice! However I really do love a board game that comes with nicely crafted pieces and thankfully, that’s exactly what we’ve got today. The Isle of Cats by Frank West looks like a wonderful, simple experience with a lot of complexities added in. With a standard game mode and even a solo game mode, these cats are sure to keep you company. With a beautifully presented box, what do we make of The Isle of Cats Kickstarter Campaign?

Journey Quest Season 4 – Kickstarter

This is a campaign is trouble, so this is a short article to reach out to anyone who wants to hear it.

I’ve talked Journey Quest before, it’s a series set in a D&D world without going so thoroughly referential as Order of the Stick or Goblins, more that the internal logic of things like character roles and systems like magic and the relations between races, the nearness of the divine powers, and the presence of undead, orcs and ogres and that kind of ilk. Kickstarter Highlight: Cover Your Kingdom – Card Game

Card games and Kickstarter are like ducks to water; many good card games come from the platform and today we’re going to chat about another. I recently found Cover Your Kingdom, which claims to conspire to acquire punderful creatures. If that isn’t a tagline that gets you excited, I’m not sure what you get out of bed for in the morning. Puns, creatures and medieval themes? Sounds ace to me. There’s not much time to back this one, so check out Cover Your Kingdom today. If you want the lowdown, then read on for our summary of the campaign, along with the lower reward tiers.

UKGE 2019 Kickstarter Roundup – Part 1

It’s that time of year again. We headed out to Birmingham to cover as much as we possibly can in the 2019 UK Games Expo. Sadly this year we were one reporter short, so we have probably not been able to cover as much as we normally would, although I did manage to bump into Joel! UKGE is a great time to launch and/or have your Kickstarter running. As I went round the show I picked up and spoke to as many creators as possible, so today I wanted to start with the projects that are currently live.

On Kickstarter: Offensive Adult Party Game

In many ways more than one, the name of the game sort of tells you everything you think you need to know about it. This game is Offensive Adult Party Game, which is a mock of all of those offensive adult party games you’ve seen. You know the ones – They even took the image of one. Now, there’s not a massive amount to say about this campaign, but all you need to know is that it’s already earned enough to be funded, so there’s something. If you’re a fan of parody-esque Kickstarter products, then read on.

Lasers and Liches – Kickstarter

This article has a weird back story so bear with me! I was just relaxing one evening and looking through my notifications and noticed I had a new follower on Twitter. Now I usually am quite curious about people who follow me on Twitter. I wonder if they don’t know me personally then I wonder which bit of random content bought them to me. So I begin to head down the so-called rabbit hole which led me to somewhere rather interesting.

Hero Master – By Jamie Noble – Kickstarter

Jamie Noble Frier, also known as The Noble Artist, is a digital artist hailing from Sussex and is now turning his hand to board game design, with his first major foray: Hero Master. I met Jamie at UK Games Expo and he very kindly offered to give me a personal tour through the game as it stood, using Tabletop Simulator. After much time wrangling between the two of us, we finally got it scheduled in and I asked Nathan to join us digitally. The result of this is over two hours of video taken from that playthrough that we need to condense, do a voiceover for and release on our YouTube channel. Video aside, Jamie’s Kickstarter is now up and running and we thought it would be a great time to do a little overview of the game, which in my opinion is well worth buying.

MicroBrew by One FreeElephant – Kickstarter

I’ve had a preview copy of MicroBrew since I went to Airecon, after I spoke to Nigel from One Free Elephant; a board game company based in Scotland. We spoke for a bit about their release last year of the cute mining game, Ore Some, along with their most recent venture at the time, Carcosa. Nigel very kindly offered me a chance to beta test MicroBrew and now that they have gone live with their Kickstarter, it’s a great time to tell you all about it.

RPG Supplement Review: L’gat’s Tome of Amazing Creatures

There’ve been countless times where I’ve ran a campaign and gone “actually, I really could do with creating a custom creature”. Usually because I’ve been playing a game where the scenario is so far out there, that the confines of Dungeons and Dragons dicates I should be reaching far outside of it to get something more fitting. I’ve had grand wars between gods with my players being in the middle of the fights, I’ve also had to get people to fight off flaming dire wolves. However, sometimes, your mind draws a blank and you need more inspiration. That’s where monster compendiums such as L’gats Tome of Amazing Creatures comes in.

MireMarsh – Kickstarter product preview

In the first part of my UK Games Expo Kickstarter roundup, I mentioned a game involving Goblins by Room 17 games called Miremarsh. Now that the Kickstarter is live I listened back to the play through that I recorded at UKGE this year and wanted to give my full opinion on it. As per usual, we would like to remind you that this is a Kickstarter Campaign and as such things can change, so some of the information here may be out of date by the time the game is published.
