UK Geek Events Spreadsheet

I’ve been trying to think of a way to get our UK Geek Events page to be, you know, better. It was fine for a little while, but constantly updating it has become tedious and if I’m being honest, clunky. So I got thinking about how to make this better, how we can do something as a community and how we can catalogue all of the great events that take place across the UK. I figured we might as well turn it into a Google Spreadsheet, as at least everyone will get access to the data this way.

GeekOut Bristol Meet – October 12th: GhoulOut

They came, they saw, they spooked the regulars at the Old Market Tavern. On Saturday, the geeks of Bristol were back for another day and night of shenanigans and fun, combining board games, lots of drink and chats and of course, costumes. You can never celebrate Halloween too early in October, right? … Right? Well, we think so anyway, as we got our geeks together to celebrate the spooky month. The Old Market Tavern came to the rescue, bringing us excellent decorations to the conservatory and plenty of warmth and spirits in the main bar. So how did the event go?

Cosplay Project: ‘The Fiend’

It’s been a while since I wrote a cosplay post; Indeed, I think the last time I did was in January. I was originally going to be doing a year of small cosplay parts, but time quickly told me that I was going to be hunkered down with work. So, instead, I’m now vowing to complete one costume for the year. The character was only formed a few months ago and it’s quickly become a visual favourite of mine. Are you prepared to follow the leader and let me in?

Bristol Comic Con and Gaming Festival – 30th March 2019

Last year, we wrote about a relative newcomer to the comic con scene, with the Bristol Comic Con and Gaming Festival. After a successful first year here in Bristol, it looks like they’re back for another outing. As such, I figured it’d be a good time to check out what the event has coming up this year, as well as ticket prices and more. So, if you’re looking for a fun event in Bristol in the next few months, then come check this out. I’m sure it’ll be even better than the last one!

Our Reflection on 2018

2018 has been a year in which Joel and I have worked exceptionally hard – And I think every single one of you will have had a similar experience. You’ve all likely done something, or something happened to you in this year, which has changed you or changed the way you do something. This year hasn’t exactly been a barrel of laughs all the time, but it’s also not exactly been a bad year for us. I’ve got some fond memories from this year, which I hope to use to propel us as a website, us as a group and even myself as a creator further. Today, we’re just going to share what we think we’ve achieved this year – and hopefully you’ll be as proud of us as we are of the work we’ve put in.

My New Years Resolutions – One-Per-Month Cosplay Challenge

It’s been a while since I posted a genuine cosplay article on here, because in all honesty, I’ve been very lackadaisical with getting on with costumes. Not because I’m disinterested or even disorganised, but actually I’ve found that I haven’t had the proper motivation to make a whole costume. 2019 at first seemed like it was going to be even worse for me, I will not be attending any major UK conventions, which is a really sad thing to say. Instead of being down in the dumps about that, it’s given me a bit of an idea. Instead of wasting my New Years’ Resolution on the usual guffins, I’m going to vow to up my cosplay game.

Beginner’s Cosplay Guide #8: Striking A Pose

Cosplay is a crazy craft; cosplayers all begin somewhere and the question is where? How does someone start cosplaying comfortably? Who can cosplay? What are the etiquettes behind cosplay and what does a cosplayer need to know? Can someone with an unsteady hand become a cosplayer? Can someone who has never sewn-up a hole create stunning works of art? What do you need to get started? In a series of mini-guides, I hope to quell some of these questions and more.
