Unearthed Arcana – Class Abundance

So Wizards of the Coast are busy pouring out Unearthed Arcana articles, their playtest material articles that give us access to things like new spells, rules, magic items, races, and subclasses that allow us to make an ever more diverse cast of characters to bring to the table. Dungeon Situational – Unusual Traders

Any given group of players – when presented with a marketplace or new town – will ask for some fairly predictable things; blacksmiths, magic items, herbalists and alchemists, spell components (if you as a DM insist on such things) and some kind of transport like a horse and cart. But can you pull their eye with something else? Can you present them with something new, and memorable?

A good vendor, trader, or shopkeeper can really lend some memorable characterisation to a town or city. Those assembled below are presented using D&D 5th edition rules, but are readily adjusted for other systems and editions. (more…)


Announcing: Dungeon Master For Hire

So shortly after writing a short, and only slightly sarcastic article about Toronto’s Dungeon Master For Hire and discovering another in New York, and more still on Reddit, I find myself thinking that there may just be a career in this, and perhaps just enough money to be made that I can finally shed the burdens of traditional employment and embrace a true vocation, a calling if you will. Am I so willing to surrender my evenings and weekends to meet with random strangers and show them how to play my favourite hobby?
